Print and Publishing

Two weeks have passed now, four Print and Publishing lessons. Umbelivebly, I've learned more about printing in four lessons here, than I did when I studied it for a GCSE (Graphic Design).

So far in the lessons we've learned about:

Relief printing,
Intaglio printing,
Planographic printing,
and Stencil printing.

we've now had practical practice in both Mono-printing

Sun Printing

And Intaglio

Mono-printing technique.
  • Cover a glass sheet with ink from a roller, wiping off the excess.
  • Tape sheets of paper above and below glass.
  • Draw image onto paper, scratching the ink below.
  • Use other tools e.g. finger nail, flat of pencil... to get other line effects.
  • Remove tape from paper, peel paper away from inked glass.
  • The result is both an impression of ink in the paper, and in the ink, leaving an negative impression.

Intaglio-printing technique.

  • Scratch out an image on the plastic surface using a Scribe.
  • Cover this image with ink applied by a Leather pad.
  • Proceed to wipe surface ink off with a Scrim.
  • Get any remains of surface ink off.
  • Put plastic through a roller, along with damp paper.
  • The damp paper pulls the ink out of the scratches and applies the ink to the paper.
